ENGLAND–1966 FIFA World cup

In 1966, England served as the host nation for the World Cup, and they went on to win it by defeating West Germany 4-2 in extra time.

Brazil –1970 FIFA World cup

The 1970 World Cup was held in Mexico. 

Brazil defeated Italy 4-1 to win their third World Cup.

Germany – 1974 FIFA world cup

West Germany, the tournament’s host nation, won their second World Cup by defeating the Netherlands 2-1 and raising the trophy in front of their country.

Argentina– 1978 FIFA World cup

The 1978 World Cup was held in Argentina and featured 16 nations. 

The Netherlands made it to the final once more but fell to Argentina 3-1 in extra time.

Italy– 1982 FIFA World cup

Due to an increase in the number of qualifying nations, the teams at the 12th World Cup in Spain went from 16 to 24. 

Italy defeated West Germany 3-1.

Argentina– 1986 FIFA world cup

A second World Cup was held in Mexico in 1986, this time with 24 nations. 

This time, Argentina, who won their second, defeated West Germany in two finals in a row.

Germany–1990 FIFA world cup

West Germany made it to the World Cup finals for the third time in 1990, which was held in Italy.

Angola, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo, Trinidad & Tobago, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Serbia, and Montenegro all made it to the World Cup for the first time in 2006, which was hosted by Germany. 

Italy defeated France 5-3 in penalties.

Spain– 2010 FIFA world cup

The 2010 World Cup was held in South Africa. 

After the extra time, Spain defeated the Netherlands by a goal.

Germany– 2014 FIFA world cup

The spectacular 2014 World Cup was held in Brazil. 

They were humiliated 7-1 by Germany, who went on to defeat Argentina by one goal.

France– 2018 FIFA world cup

2018’s FIFA World Cup, which ran from June 14 to July 15, was held in Russia.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be held in the winter rather than the customary summer months to escape the country’s intense heat in June and July.

N’Golo Kante (France)

The Chelsea player was crucial to France’s triumph at the 2018 World Cup in midfield, recovering possession for his team and nearly all by himself keeping Les Bleus on the attack throughout the competition. 

N’Golo Kante will miss his country’s championship defence in Qatar four years after the event due to a hamstring injury he sustained earlier in the season that will keep him out until February of the following year. 

Even though they have a likeable replacement in 22-year-old Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, this is a major setback for Didier Deschamps’ team who are already dealing with injuries.

Reece James (England)

Due to many hamstring muscle problems, Reece James was out for a significant portion of the previous season.

Diogo Jota (Portugal)

Diogo Jota led the Selecao to the tournament’s group stages while also leading Portugal in non-penalty goals throughout World Cup qualification. He also scored in the playoffs. 

But due to a calf injury he suffered playing for Liverpool against Manchester City at the end of the month, he won’t be available for the championships for several weeks. 

Jota missed the first few games of the regular season due to an ankle ailment; he finally made a comeback in October. 

Now that he will be out for the remainder of the year due to this new ailment, he will no longer be able to travel to Qatar.

Raphael Varane (France)

N’Golo Kante’s absence from the World Cup was a blow, but France could lose another in the form of center-back Raphael Varane, who will not be able to play for Manchester United until the World Cup after injuring his hamstring against Chelsea two weeks ago. 

The former Real Madrid player’s sobbing exit off the field raised initial concerns about the severity of the injury, but he has since begun his rehabilitation and has provided encouraging updates on his recuperation. 

Despite the immense depth of the French team, the title defence in Qatar will still require his leadership and championship-winning expertise.

Kalvin Phillips (England)

Kalvin Philipps, one of Gareth Southgate’s most reliable players, was a crucial component in the midfield during England’s journey to the Euros championships last year. 

The current Manchester City player has since endured numerous injuries that have kept him sidelined for an extended period of time. 

After joining the team in the summer, Philipps dislocated his shoulder during a preseason friendly, necessitating surgery. 

Only 13 minutes have been accumulated by him for City this year. 

The 26-year-recovery old’s has gone well, but as of right now, nothing can be said for sure about his suitability for World Cup selection.

Jesus Corona (Mexico)

Mexico will offer some fascinating players to watch, similar to previous editions, including star winger Hirving Lozano and Ajax’s brilliant midfielder Edson Alvarez. 

Jesus Corona, a talented winger, had a chance to join the team but his long-term ligament damage dashed all expectations. 

He got a well-deserved transfer to Sevilla in the January transfer window of this year after creating an impression with FC Porto for several seasons and contributing six goals to the La Liga team’s past campaign. 

He just played 63 minutes in the first game of the season before being hurt, which will keep him out until December.

Kyle Walker (England)

Considering the depth they have at right back, it is remarkable that England appears to be devoid of choices for the World Cup. 

Reece James of Chelsea is certain to miss the tournament due to a knee injury, and manager Southgate may find it difficult to select Trent Alexander-Arnold due to his inconsistent defensive performance. Kyle Walker’s groyne issue adds further stress to the Three Lions’ camp. 

While Kieran Tripper continues to be a suitable player for that flank, if Walker is unable to recuperate in time for the major event in Qatar, it will be missed for his versatility to play as a center-back in a back three. 

He underwent a good operation and is currently recovering.
